Water Less, Grow More

Are you wondering how you can be more efficient with water in the garden?

On April 12th, the Gardens Project and the Mendocino County Resource Conservation District (MCRCD) are partnering to present three workshops in community gardens around Ukiah to educate gardeners and create conversation around water conservation.

The workshops will be presented in both English and Spanish. We encourage a bilingual discussion to keep our community's gardens thriving and not thirsty this summer.

Curious what we'll be talking about? Here's an overview:
1. Soil Building, like a sponge!
2. Drought Tolerant Plants
3. In-Bed Spacing
4. Mulching
5. Watering Technique and Irrigation
6. Other Options

The MCRCD has created a resource page for information and events around the drought. Visit the page here.

Here's one water tip to get you thinking before the workshop:
Water early in the day, when cooler temperatures and calm conditions slow evaporation (on the coast, northwest winds make it difficult to water efficiently in the afternoon). Allow enough time for plants to dry out before evening to prevent fungus and mildew problems.
